Eagley 2 Charnock Richard 1

The result says it all really.

Eagley battled and dug deep right from the off, nearly going in front a couple of times but just failing to find the net.
Danny Warburton slid a sublime ball through the middle to the onrushing Jack Horan, who’s attempt was well saved by the Charnock keeper. But It was Carl Grimshaw the ex Eagles striker who was a constant threat for the visitors but between the Eagley defence and keeper Tom Macdonald they managed to keep him out. ‘Warby’ then sent an identical ball through to new signing Tom Price who’s shot was just wide and by now Eagley were getting a good foothold of the game. Then after some great work on the right the breakthrough came, a cross came over onto the head of dependable Jack Horan who made no mistake nodding home to send Eagley 1 up. It was again end to end football but Charnock made a good break into the box, and it fell to who else but Carl Grimshaw as he took a calm finish to push it round the Eagley keeper making it 1-1 at the break.
Eagley came out into the second half pushing for the elusive winner but with no avail, until with about 20 minutes to go it fell to Grimshaw again who found himself one on one with the Eagley keeper, but luckily his run was deemed off side and his goal disallowed. Then Eagley upped their play again fighting and winning every ball as it fell to feet of  the industrious Tom Price. Everyone thought he’d taken one touch too many as he turned and shot in the far bottom corner, giving the Charnock keeper no chance! Eagley then continued to fight for every ball showing a passion to win that has not been seen before this season, taking a valuable 3 points from contenders to win the league.
We caught up with manager Simon Whaley after the game to ask him about the win, and his first win in charge, and he replied; ‘Its a great win today, the lads thoroughly deserved it, and if we play like that every week we’ll be fine’
